STRIDE ANNOUNCES GRANT POLICY FOR SPONSORED ATHLETES
Support for Trail Runner Inclusion Development and Empowerment (STRIDE) is pleased to announce a new policy clarifying eligibility for sponsored athletes applying for STRIDE Grants.
STRIDE Grants are needs-based awards designed to support training and participation in ultra and trail races around the world, including high-profile events such as Western States Endurance Run and its qualifying races. The program is intentionally structured to remove barriers to participation and to support athletes across a wide range of circumstances.
Under this policy, sponsored athletes are welcome to apply for STRIDE Grants. STRIDE does not require endorsements, sponsor promotion, logo placement, or exclusivity of any kind. Grantees are asked to disclose current sponsorships and confirm that accepting a STRIDE Grant does not violate existing agreements. In cases where a potential conflict exists, STRIDE may offer vendor-direct or purpose-restricted funding as an alternative.
“Our goal with STRIDE has always been to expand the trail and ultra community by removing barriers—not creating new ones,” said Jaclyn Foroughi, cofounder of STRIDE. “We recognize that athletes’ situations vary widely, including those who are sponsored. We’re committed to finding thoughtful workarounds whenever possible so that support can reach the runners who need it, while respecting existing agreements. When more athletes can show up prepared, supported, and fully able to compete, it raises the bar for everyone.”
STRIDE believes that supporting athletes—whether emerging, aspiring, or already competing at a high level—strengthens the sport as a whole. This policy reflects STRIDE’s broader commitment to access, transparency, and long-term athlete development.
Sponsored athletes with questions about eligibility are encouraged to reach out or address potential conflicts during the application process. STRIDE remains committed to working collaboratively with athletes to find solutions that keep them moving forward.
About STRIDE
Support for Trail Runner Inclusion, Development, and Empowerment (STRIDE) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded in 2025 by veteran ultrarunners Phil Sanderson and Jaclyn Foroughi. Its mission is to make trail and ultra running accessible to all—regardless of financial means, family responsibilities, or life circumstances—by breaking down barriers that prevent passionate runners from pursuing their goals, from training for a first ultramarathon to competing at the highest level.
Through its needs-based STRIDE Grant Program, the organization provides financial and logistical support to athletes who demonstrate commitment, perseverance, and community spirit, fostering a more inclusive, equitable, and inspired trail running community.
